Photo Shoot: The Butterfly House St. Louis

Posted: April 21st, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Photography |

I went to the St. Louis Butterfly House with my girlfriend Sarah and our friends Matt and Beth on Saturday, April 18th, 2009. I’ve heard about the place and have driven past it at least 10 times. I decided to take my camera with and damn……….i’m so glad I did!

The Butterfly House is an 8,000 square foot Conservatory Garden sheathed in 646 pieces of glass, each measuring 4′ X 6′ and weighing approximately 200 pounds. The center vault, soaring 36′ high at its apex, is one of five vaults designed to minimize visual (and flight) obstruction.

The temp is kept around 88 degrees and the humidity feels like a natural rain forest. It was a challenge keeping my lens fog free.

I hope you like what I shot. This was my first real chance to capture nature with the D90.
